The Great Green Turban, a swirly emerald, white and brown seashell, a beautiful species listed under India’s Wildlife Protection Act and is illegal to harvest in the country. However, the high demand from international consumers for souvenirs and handicrafts is endangering these shells. They are poached in Kanya Kumari, India. Due to the lack of awareness of the illegality of the trade, the wild populations of Turbo Marmoratus shells and the mollusks that live in them are drastically diminishing. One way we can effectively put and end to this endangerment is through educating our loved ones and refraining from our own shell consumption.
