learn with nature
Oceans serve as the planet’s largest habitat and also help to regulate the global climate.
Children ages 0-7 are on a lower vibrational frequency of consciousness which means they are driven by their theta brain - the part of the brain that is responsible for the state of imagination! Science and art are closely intertwined subjects that have helped each other improve in a mutualistic relationship for numerous centuries. Children at Little Fungi, learn about biodiversity and all their lessons through art, expression, colour and play. it is a great way to learn and imagine worlds on earth. while also allowing them to create and depict the knowledge they learn in their time here.
At Little fungi, children learn to cultivate an open heart and learn valuable lessons from our beautiful earth, oceans and cosmos.
embroidery
Here, the children of Little Fungi learn the practice and patience of embroidery as they play with dinos and yellow chanterelle fungi, sewn on our thoughtful cotton curtain that will bring meaningful life to our educational space.
gardening & Foraging
We experience the species of plants and fungi through our forage and understand the benefits of knowing the source of our food for our body and mind and the precious natural ingredients that our incredible earth has to share with us.
“ Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better”
- Albert Einstein -
connecting with Flora
Nature connects to something deep inside our soul. It is our natural habitat and is crucial to our mental and physical wellbeing. It heals our body and mind. Studies continually prove that nature can strengthen the immune systems of children. increases self confidence and can improve their mood. Our universe is intelligent. Society has evolved in such a way that has separated us from our natural instincts. I mean think about it, we a part of nature, we have evolved through nature, we are nature. The world in which we live in now is disconnected from the core of our own being.
The wisdom that is connecting all of life is in deep need of reconnection. Nature is our greatest teacher.
Connecting with Funga
The creators and regenerators of life.
Found billions of years ago, the ancient origins of the oldest, largest and one of the most significant organisms to ever live. Fungi are fundamental life forms that create symbiotic relationships with other living organisms to enable life on earth for every living being. They sustain us and our lives deeply depend on their existence. Fungi are one of the least known and misunderstood organisms, they were previously taught and considered under botany, but through mycological discoveries we have found that fungi are their own unique kingdom and are more closely related to animals than they are to plants. Although it is estimated that 2.2 - 3.8 million fungi species live on Earth, barley 5% of fungi is known to humans. A little over 90% of fungi remain hidden and are yet to be discovered!
Fungi are living all over the world, new ecosystems on land are founded by fungi. They are inside and all around us and even underneath our feet. In the soil, in the oceans, in the food we eat, the air we breathe, in our own bodies and even in space!
We share intimate histories with fungi, yeasts live on our skin, in our lungs and in our stomachs. Moulds such as the discovery of a bacteria killing chemical called penicillin that has saved countless lives. There is a long standing history of animals such as ourselves eating fungi since the stone age. Mushrooms are the fruiting body of fungi, while Mycelium; the root of fungi represents rebirth and regeneration, they connect all beings as one. Plants are fungi have formed a symbiotic relationship called Mycorrhiza, where water and nutrients flow through ecosystems within the mycelial networks under the trees known as the ‘Wood Wide Web’. Some of the most delicious and flavourful mushrooms are mycorrhizal. This intersection between the kingdoms of fauna and flora give us the food, shelter and medicine we need to thrive!
Fungi absorb the environment in which they live in. The atmospheric chemistry of our globe is influenced by the changes within the fungal network. By protecting fungi and their essential roles, we are protecting the animals, plants, and the biodiverse habitats that we all live in. We are ensuring the preservation of our existence on earth.
connecting with Fauna
Animals, plants and fungi are sentient beings that feel. we explore the significance of the incredible interconnected web of species that create balance and life on earth. From the biggest to the smallest living things on Earth. how incredible is it to know that there are species out there that exist that are yet to discover. understanding the patterns and personalities of flora, fauna and fungal diversity is crucial to preserving all other forms of life on earth, including us.
A story of love, preservation & compassion for a beautiful Oleander Hawk Moth.
it all began when little sweet shez ( one of the kids i have the pleasure of teaching and learning with ) frantically ran up to my door, and asked me to go downstairs to help an injured creature. she told me how it was listening to her gut feeling that lead her to me… ♡
so four little girls, a little boy & a trisha chechi spent the evening caring deeply for this small gorgeous being. we did all we could in the moment to share love and nectar. i am always so touched by the kindness and fierce protective nature these children intuitively have for all living beings. they genuinely want to nurture and love and it is incredibly heart warming and empowering to see. i hope this video gives you a glimpse of hope and encourages us all to care for even the little creatures that float, foot and fly around us ♡
oh and always listen to your heart n’ intuition 🐘
bees, butterflies, bats and hummingbirds are some of the pollinators - creating new life. coral reefs dispersed all across the global providing oxygen for humans. as these wildlife species are lost. we are not only risking the extinction of the entire coral species and fish species that depend on them, but we are risking the lives of all living beings.
the lense of Gratitude
We explore each extraordinary day through the binoculars of gratitude.
At little fungi, we always practice gratitude, we write and read our gratitude journals to each other and we listen patiently. We also practice gratitude and value throughout the lesson in which we engage for the day. This practice reenforces the appreciation for each day of this beautiful life on earth from the perspectives of ourselves and of others. we write and reflect on different topics and areas of discovery and improving the self.
Gratefulness reminds us of how abundant and magical this world is. Children who regularly engage in gratitude practice are more resilient, report higher levels of happiness and enjoy better mental health. Our gratitude journal is inspired by the founders of Intelligent Change - Mimi and Alex Ikonn.
Gratitude gives wonderful gifts that will help to prepare young children for challenges that may come. When we welcome gratefulness into each moment we see that there is an much love inside and all around us. Attracts abundance through appreciation, is open to new opportunities, has a sense of perspective, engages in acts of kindness and generosity, views the future with optimism, fosters deep and meaningful connections.
Meditation and mindfulness
Slow down, calm the mind and let the serenity of nature sing through the voice of a tailor bird. Feeling the sunbeams , feel the wind through your hair. Inhale it, let it embrace you. Find stillness. This is what it feels like to be truly connected to the source. We sit still and breathe together. focusing on the present moment. dance meditation and being in flow state when the body is in movement and motion, liberates and releases energy that transforms into connection to the self and the universe.
Art
Art is a voice to important thoughts and is a great way to connect for young children. our passions. when well exercised, hold immense wisdom. they guide our thinking, our values, our survival. Colour is a language in the kingdoms of flora, fauna and funga.

WHY Does Little Fungi matter
for our natural world?
the butterfly effect
If we look at what we have done to our planet, we are exhilarating species loss, habitat loss, deforestation, wildlife trafficking and human wildlife conflict. we are inching closer to to the sixth massive extinction event. The loss of biodiversity is not only an environmental issue, it impacts us all. a deep cultural and systemic shift is crucial. we need to grow into a world that is about loving each other and valuing nature and recognise that we are nature.
It is vital that we unravel the root cause of zoonotic diseases and environmental pandemics. Covid-19 is just a microscopic warning for something bigger and badder. if we continue to exploit wildlife and our natural resources, it is going to be detrimental to the health and ecosystem of our planet and the wondrous beings that live on it.
It is imperative that we educate people, more importantly the youth about the importance of preserving the flora, fauna and funga that live amongst us and open our eyes the value of all life on our earth.
“In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand and we will understand only what we are taught.” - Baba Dioum -
